Now, the front is cracked in two places, which to me says it must be weak to have cracked twice?

Hi Tom. I've had 2 x 230's replaced on mine for cracks, one front, one back. Rare, but there you go. Good luck. Only tip is that if they don't agree to replace it FOC, stay calm and keep referring the matter up the chain of command.
