Agreed, swapping the already short-geared auto diff for the manual diff is a tremendous waste. The auto diff has shorter gears to aid with off-the-line acceleration when the driver is likely not revving as high into each gear (unlike a manual). Torque is a big deal and hang onto every lb ft you can get like your life depends on it. Car will not drive like a proper BMW with reduced torque.
