If you ever figure this out, I'd be very interested to hear all the details because I legitimately despise xDrive. I hadn't realized the steering was different, but I should have. I'm new to my 2011 328xi, but I drove a 2006 325i for 14 years so the difference in performance, handling, and economy were all staring me right in the face so hard I guess I missed the steering ratio. Damn it I hate xDrive.
