Worn belts or pulleys or bearings can make a noise. Need to have someone rev the engine whilst you look around in the bay. Turbo is drivers side. If the noise isn't coming from there it's definitely not turbo.
Also have to remember that turbos do make noise, they aren't silent. With the window down I can hear mine.
