In cars with rain sensor that selector does not control wiper frequency. It controls sensor sensitivity. However, as anyone with that sensor knows, it has much better sensitivity for small water droplets (drizzle) and much worse sensitivity for large water droplets (shower). Which means that wiper behavior is always very irregular and unpredictable. One has to always adjust that selector to match the sensor sensitivity to the rain type.
