From the forums, many people complain that any of the OEM options generate plenty of dust. Many have used low dust, high performance pads from Stoptech, EBC, and Hawk with plenty of good things to say about them. I personally enjoy my EBC yellow stuffs which are a great track option that performs well daily driven.

As for shops, I prefer taking my vehicles to non-dealership specialists. For typical repairs, a BMW specific shop will see tons of brake changes and will be more than adequate to do the job well. You'll also see a large savings often in the range of 30% or more (usually more). You'll also see savings when you combine multiple jobs such as doing the front and rear at the same time.
