Why did they have to get trued - were they dented or did they have a crack that had to be welded?

Rims are in new condition. If there is any variation in the pictures, it is probably due to me using my cell phone camera at the rim shop in bad lighting conditions.
The rims also did not need to be trued. I took them off the car in working condition. I thought it would be easier to sell them if they were basically brand new rims, so I had the rim shop check and correct any variations before the refinished them.
