The wheels are from an E46. According to
http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/ they are "Styling 136" and are 7x16 with et47. I've already bought them and they have 225/50x16 tyres on. I haven't tried them on the car nor bought winter tyres yet.
When I say 'cheap' tyres, I don't mean £20 for the man down the pub but equally I don't want to fork out £180 for a tyre when a tyre priced at £80 will be nearly as good for the short distances I drive. I spotted some Kumho KW23 205/55 R16 from mytyres on ebay which were a possibility. I used a tyre comparison guide and that size of tyre will only be 2mm less diameter than my existing 225/47x17 & 255/40x17 setup.
