Skip the vinyl and just head to a local body shop supply for some SEM Trim Black (spray paint). Pull the trim (order new clips, they WILL break) scuff with grey 3m pad and hit with a few thin coats. Trim black is designed to go on without primer and really is an amazing product. It will hold up TOUGH! First coat you will see a few fish eyes. Let it dry a bit then the second coat settles everything.
