^^ he speaks truth. Tires tend to dry out as they age. The oils dry and the tires start to suffer "tire rot" and will crack and seperate.
There are production dates on all tires. They may not be clear as day...but they should all have the month/year of production somewhere on them - look really good or Google the tire brand and date so you can find it easier.
It's important to check it as you don't wanna have an issue with the spare at the moment you need it.
