It will be seen as was user negligence. If you would have over torqued something and broken the bolt, they would not cover that under warranty and you would have to pay out of pocket. This is the same scenario. You broke the key while working on your car - there is no way to prove the Key was 'defective' or if you did something so grossly negligent that the key broke (such as; jumped on the socket with all your weight).
