Yikes, rim cracked in half is scary to hear. Pictures? I wouldn't assume that they're that horrible and they should be passing safety standards if they have certs to go with the wheels.
Regardless, as a note to people who are considering these wheels is that I wouldn't expect them to be the same thing as a set of HREs or Fikses or something, and that's fine... Just have the appropriate expectations for $900 wheels.
My friend has these in 18s on his E36 M3 for a long time without any issues apart from the paint chipping - structurally they're fine.
