Just got this done today, along with another recall for the dpf mixer (the part that sprays the dpf into the exhaust). The mech explained that some of the D's had the updated part, and some didn't. The only way to tell was to take it out and see. He said that the old p/n had the "vanes" too close together, or something, and could get clogged due to the dpf crystallizing in/on it. Haven't gotten on it hard since getting it back (got a '13 328 as a loaner, btw:-) , but mpg seems the same. Whole process, including checking rear brake pads, took ~6 hrs.
