Nope not difficult to coordinate if you dont have one, you just miss out on the talks...which sometimes involves warnings of bicyclists or pedestrians ahead. Or traffic etc.
It just helps keep everyone together and safe. I would say its best that people with the radios are in the front and rear, with a person or two in the middle. That way the person leading knows everyone is following. If the last person does not have a radio, it can be difficult to make sure we are all accounted for. Otherwise not a big deal. I would say don't be discouraged from coming if you don't have one. Its not necessary. Join us!!
