Okay, a more nuanced post then:
It depends.
If I'm slowing down at, say, a red light, where I think maybe the light is about to change, then I shift down and engine brake for maximum effect.
If I'm coming to a stop at, say, a stop sign, then I just brake/coast to a stop with the transmission eventually in neutral.
