I think there's a fairly good and simplistic argument for it being a safety issue.. Being that if it doesn't readjust properly, and I don't notice immediately, and I go to use it and it's not properly adjusted as I think it should be it based on the expectations of the feature that BMW provided on the car and I hit something, I'd say that's a safety issue.
I'm not arguing because the fix from this thread performed by my dealership trying to help me out when the car was in for other CPO work seems to have worked like a charm. So I'd say definitely try this fix.
