As S4to335 mentioned, "Suspension in general doesn't last long." Even a factory suspension system loses it's optimal performance level before 100K miles. A majority of car owners disregard the maintenance (replacement) of a shock, because the deterioration is so gradual and virtually unnoticeable.

A coilover will offer the longest life of any aftermarket spring & shock combination. Since the shock travel is designed to accommodate to a shorter and stiffer spring, most of the pressure is maximized. But just like a high powered motor, performance and longevity rarely go hand-in-hand.
