Forget snow for the moment, that's not the main issue, we're talking about cold weather tyres, not siberian spiked snow tyres.

What about the other 3.5 non-snowy winter months slipping and sliding all over the place on your shiny summer tyres? I have conti sport 3's like you and they're like oiled granite and lethal on country lanes in winter.

I was leaning towards the fact that, with the landy and all, you must live in a very rural area.

So you must be aware that country lanes when cold, wet and muddy (and nearly freezing) are just as slippy as slushy & icy 'city' roads.
