Most of the "problems" that are associated have been resolved (HPFP) or are guaranteed parts by BMW (wastegates). If you take care of the car (regular maintenance), it'll give you lots of smiles. If you forget to chance the oil & don't actively maintain it, it'll punish your wallet.

I really like the VQ's engine note & that you can rev the hell out of it, but I'd take an N54/N55 over it any day
