What you need Gav is a low calibre air rifle. I know people are always banging on about how dangerous they are, but that's only when a kid shoots themself in the face at point blank.
In the hands of a responsible adult (you might even say you were in an even more suitable role than anyone for this) and at a fair distance/altitude of say 100 feet (as the crow flies) you might say it would be 'safe' to snipe at the kiddies. Just aim for the back of the legs etc - you know, the fatty bits.
Problem solved really.
