AFAIK the only way to update the "software" inside the car would be through the OBD2 to USB cable with respective software (INPA etc...).

I believe you may be getting the OBD2 to USB converter cable mixed up. Where the USB plugs into the Computer which has software installed for "coding" and the OBD2 portion plugs into the car.

Also, if your still under warranty, you may check and see if the dealer will apply the update for free.
