Absolutely correct.

I work "in da hood." The underground garage is perfectly safe as we have armed guards patrolling inside and out and a 200% ID check, but once outside it can get iffy once the sun goes down.

We have a Metropolitan Police Department cruiser with at least one cop in it stationed outide the building 24/7 yet somebody has taken potshots at the building overnight.

DC is "revitalizing" the area so we'll be in better shape in a few hundred years but until then I keep my doors locked when driving.
