Back when I had my E36, I would experience chatters with non-brand name window washer fluid. Ever since then, I've been using Prestone WWF and no longer had this chatter issue.
As for sizes, I think it's (24" driver) 19" but I could be wrong.

+1. I put rain-X on my dad's windshield, and it was fine until he went through an automatic car wash that applied spray on wax. Chattered until the rain-x wore off.
I'm getting chattering now, but I think it's caused from a lot of sand pits in the window (wiper squeeges water into pit, then you have a dry spot). I dunno, but until I get new glass, I'm living with it.
