If I was driving a car in the outer lane of a dual carriageway and a 40 tonne HGV started to pull into my lane in front of me I wouldn't try to assert my position. I'd slap on the anchors and get out of his way.

I agree though, this must have been truly dreadful for everyone involved.
i get what you are saying. my point was that there is always a small chance that the smaller vehicle will try to push through and you can never be completely sure. occupants of cars are often protected by the frame but a biker is completely exposed will fly once hit. one should be especially careful around bikes as the chance of greater injury are higher.
