Actually with the OEM wheels which are standard with RFT's they are a lot heavier and stronger than say OEM wheels of the same size for E46 which didn't come with RFTs. I believe BMW had to make the "lightweight" alloy wheel not so lightweight anymore with RFTs to increase the strength of the wheel to withstand the amount of additional shock which transfers from the hard sidewalls to the wheel.

Just a theory. So if you are looking to put on RFTs, make sure u have stronger wheels to take the punishment.
