Of course there are horror stories on forums but no one I know that have owned BMW's ever had a problem actual parts going out, it was always electrical problems that kept happening and they just got fed up with it and went to another car. So yes, if you maintain it well, your car is in better position to last longer but electrical faults happen regardless of how well you maintain it.
