I moved here two years ago when these crazy hurricanes started (hey don't blame me lol) and I have not had a problem at all. I live about 5 miles from the coast and have had a bunch of major hurricanes come within 20 miles of me without major damage. Two years ago we didn't even lose power (we're on an underground grid system) and last year we only lost it for two days when everyone else had no power for weeks or even a month. Our apartment lost some ceramic tiles, a couple people's sliders blew out, and one person in a townhouse apartment's huge window blew out. Every tree in our parking lot fell down besides the palms which totalled about 6 trees and about 2 cars were totalled and maybe 4 damaged besides minor dings. That was pretty bad last year and no one was really devastated.
