I think it's just marketing BS to have some separation from the M3. Unlike the 335is, the Z4 and the 1M do not have a car that is higher up in the series that needs to be protected.

I find it hard to believe that there could be anything more than minimal differences in hp between the 3 when all the significant specs are exactly the same - peak torque@rpm, torque@overboost, boost/overboost psi, max rpm etc., etc., Also I've seen dyno readings for all three vary anywhere from 280 hp to 320 wheel hp. Significantly the 1/4 mile trap speed for all three cars is in the 108/109 mph range even though the 1M should/will likely have an advantage with it lighter weight and the M locking diff which may give it a better launch.
