Race springs in front, stock in back question
hey guys, I currently have H&R race springs on my e92. Since doing my M3 conversion, I would like to beef up the rear of the car as much as possible without doing a rear flare to the fender.
I currently have 19X9.5 CSL's with 265/30/19 rear tires. I tried on a pair of the same wheels but with a 275/35/19 Toyo tire and it looked amazing, but the car is too low to handle that set up. If I were to put back on the stock rear springs, and leave the race springs in front, what problems might I encounter, or what advise can you experts give me on this. Forgive me, I dont know alot about suspension set ups Thank you guys!I appreciate your help! brandon |

There are a lot of reasons to NOT do that, and I would just highly advise that you don't run unmatched F&R springs. Just put stock springs on or leave what you have on there. Most simple thing is just to run that 265 tire, no real advantage going 275s.

I know there is no real advantage to running a 275, but my entire post is about visually making the rear of the car look bigger, to match the front end's aggressivness

Running mis matched springs is pretty unsafe and handling would be really unpredictable. And the progressive rate fronts and linear rate rears would make the car feel pretty strange when cornering too I think.

I just spoke to H&R's tech dept. and they said the springs rates are way off, and that It would be a huge difference, also not recommended at all. So I guess I am stuck

the back will "rock" more than the front on turns, so it might handle funny, but I don't see any problems with that. Personally, I'd recommend a coilover setup...

I have heard of really customizing springs for race applications...so its not unheard of...but to be honest..unless you really know what you are doing...I wouldnt put race springs on the front and OEM springs on the rear.
That being said, I may change the rear springs on my PSS9 coilovers to a slightly higher spring rate....adding about 50-100 lbs more in spring rate.

On a second thought, why not just get an M3? Even without the badging and so on, it's still a bit out of place. On a third thought, your car looks better than an actual M3 without that monstrosity that they call a "power dome".

Did you talk to Roland? He has been very helpful to me over the years...I have had three sets of H&R coilovers on previous cars (Audis)

why not just get an M3? LOL sure, like I have an extra 40 grand sitting in my bank account, no offense but when people say that, it just baffles me. Maybe you are in that situation, where you can just go buy anything that comes to mind? I certainly am not though |
