How I spent my Friday
So recently my 335 got into a little fender bender. Mom at my son's daycare backed into the car somehow while my wife was in the parking lot. She somehow claimed she didn't see it... So it spent 2 weeks in the shop getting the door and quarter panel replaced. The shop did great work, but it's a body shop and they don't do vinyl.
How it looked before How it came out of the shop Door in process Starting the quarter Now good as new |

It's Hexis Kiwi green. I got it from Auto Vinyl Solutions. But I'm not really satisfied with their service. I've ordered several times from them and there always seems to be some minor annoyance. This time they lied about shipping date (claimed it shipped out but was never picked up). Had to call twice and then they shipped that day, but I'm still missing part of my order.

Originally I had it done by a local shop because I didn't have the time to do it and needed to keep it a secret from my wife. I believe it took her about 5 days off and on. From my understanding, the hardest part for her was the M3 bumper. It's a lot of sharp edges which lead to the vinyl tearing while stretching. The rest of the car was pretty easy.
It took me about 6 hours to get the door and quarter redone. That was with my 5 year old nearby so lots of distractions. I'd say if you worked non stop, you could do the entire car in 2-3 days. I'm going to do my other car myself soon and figure it'll take 3 days. It could be done quicker (lots of shops do 1 day turnaround) but vinyl requires patience so it's better to take your time instead of rushing it and getting a questionable result. Or having to redo panels. |

Thanks. And it takes about 20 yards if you don't mess up. I bought 22 yards originally since hexis is only sold in 11 yard increments. Including a couple of redos on the front bumper, it was just enough.

Yeah, I was amazed she'd actually claim she couldn't see the car. But somehow she managed to back right into it while my wife was driving. She hit the car right in the middle and caved the door as well as the quarter. $5K at the body shop. Right now my insurance is in arbitration with hers (Progressive). They're being pretty shady about it and actually called my wife trying to coerce her into admitting that they were both backing up and splitting damages 50/50. She said no way and the police report faulted the other driver (no one was cited since private lot). But Progressive still called my insurance and claimed that they spoke with my wife and she admitted to 50/50. It was ridiculous. So right now I'm waiting to get my deductible back.

Soon...I just buttoned it back up tonight after replacing the AC condenser and refilling radiator. Bumper goes on tomorrow, then backup camera and it'll go back on the road.
