Egged--pissed off

I just bought a 325i and that same f*cking night I had it parked at a friend's house on the street when a couple cars got egged at about 12am. Of course mine was one of them..

Ended up chipping the paint quite a bit.

This happened about a week ago so I am wondering if a should still file a police report.

police report, but i doubt it may not give you any results coz my friend's civic was egged. filed a report but the culprit was never caught
and get it repainted asap, if i'm not wrong egg yolk or somethin can corrode not only your paint but the panel as well. i maybe wrong but its better to be safe than sorry

I've been detailing for 10 years now; unfortunately in that time I've yet to come across an effective repair for clear coat failure from eggs. As the egg impacts it literally embeds into the clear and creates a crater (as you saw), unfortauntely the only solution is a repaint. I've tried regular touchup, wetsanding, touchup systems (123, etc..), nothing works 100%. Sorry for the bad news.

As for the cost that depends entirely on the shop you go to. Estimates will range from $300 to $1000; find a shop that will show you their work or one that comes recommended. Make sure it will not be a mask job and let them know up front you will not accept a job with overspray, fisheyes, etc..

I've heard that titanium metallic is very hard to match the paint with... would my best bet be to go to my dealer's body shop?

Yes! Find out where they take their cars for paint jobs and ensure the quality. Don't accept the car until the paint is just right. They should paint the entire door or just overlap the area. I had my hood done for a rock chip and that was almost $600. They did a really good job and I couldn't tell the difference. Make sure you look at it under fluorescent light and not sunlight. I had some issues with the clear coat but they fixed that. They should clear coat the entire door again. Good luck and sorry that you had to go thru that!

That's hard to answer; every body shop (including dealers) is different. See if you can find recommendations from people you trust on a good shop. If all else fails take it to the dealer but as mentioned be very specific about your expectations; perfect color match, no fisheyes, no excessive orange peel, no overspray, not a mask job.

that sucks. i can tell you that filing a report won't do jack's shit. after my car got hit for the 5th time, i decided to file one and after wasting a half hour waiting for the cop to finish all paperwork i asked him how does this help me and he said it doesn't help at all. all you can do is to give the report to your insurance company when you're putting a claim in.

also, don't trust your dealer's body shop, no matter what your sales guy tells you. i listened to mine and ended going back to the shop 5 times and they still didn't get it right. i now have millions of fine scratches all over my driver's side from them trying to polish off all the imperfections they caused.

i concur. be very careful of going to the dealer recommended shop. it can be a scammer's feeding ground...and you'll end up (or your insurance) paying more than you bargained for...

Still wondering how to "egg" a car. What to think off if someone "eggs" a car, or if someone's car is "egged"? Does it involve chickens?

After all I 'm an "international english speaker" and egging cars was not part of my english lessons. Is it something like "pumpkinning helicopters" or "pearing boats"?

"Last night, my boat was peared. If I get the pearer in my hands, he'll remember it for the rest of his life. I will cheese him."
"Cheesing people is strictly forbidden. You could go to jail for that."
"O yeah? What if I pumpkin your nose?"
"that 'll make you a nose-pumpkinner. You 'll be fined if they catch you."
"Still better a nose pumpkinner than a car egger."
...
So guys...could you explain what "to egg a car" looks, sounds or smells like?

My car got cupcaked last night...I kid you not. I went for out for dinner after work and when I came back I found half-eaten cupcakes on the windshield and hood of the car.... I was a bit surprised as they look like pieces of foam in the dark. Its a good thing they were of a drier consistency (not like greasy ho-hos or similar) so no harm done. Who cupcakes cars anyways..?

Take an egg or more that is/are not cooked and throw it/those at someone car(s). When the egg break, there two liquids in the egg as you/everyone know; mainly the clear part of the egg is what will eat through paint and clear coat if it get dried. Also, once it's dried, it can make the paint crack . The best way to fight these so far that I have found is use the dish washing soap(the one that is used for hand wash not machine wash) and wash the egg off your car. Don't hestitate while washing or you will scratch your car.

I think the shell does at least as much if not more damage than anything else. When the shell shatters, it generates a lot of very hard razor sharp edges. As the egg impacts the surface of the car, the edges of the shell cut into the finish and leave the "lunar crater look". That is my non-professional opinion though. Getting the residue off the finish as soon as possible will keep it from etching into the finish, but the impact damage has already been done.

Oh thanks KaBoom. So I guess pumpkinning helicopters really could be a smashy business.

Bastards full of jealousy, those egg-throwers. I had never heard of such a thing before. What jealous people do here is walk beside your car and scratch it from front to rear with their car keys. Undoubtedly frequent in the States too. Except that we here in Europe have the most jealous people, with all those damn socialists here....
(you guys never shoudda left Germany - it all began to worsen after you left )

I had this same run-around with the cops. I had some paint thinner dumped down the side of my VW Jetta a few years back--I knew they would not be able to do much (they asked me if I had an ex-girlfriend pissed off or something) but it was worth the time so I could turn it into my insurance cmpany. It was about $1500 to repair ($500 deduct.) and the company would not even start a claims process without a police report. Depending on how bad the damage is--it may actually be worth your time. Sorry to hear about this--people are really moronic sometimes.
