MS-8 problem, please help
I purchased an MS-8 and technic harness(not the MS-8 specific one) from another member.
I hooked it up today and I get no sound from it at all. It powers up fine and I have gone through the set up several times, setting sub separate and then switching to front 3 way like Kaigoss. No matter what I do I don't get any sound. Not even the test signal sound you are supposed to get to confirm your outputs are configured right. Is there anything else I should try before I discuss sending it back to the guy I got it from? |

follow up: I realized I had disconnected the sub while working so I connected it back and it plays faintly when music is playing on the head unit. I unhooked Technics harness and used a battery to test one of the speaker inputs and I can hear the battery pop fine.
System is currently configured: output 1- front left high 2- front right high 3- front left mid -underseat woofer 4- front right mid -underseat woofer 5- left side 6- right side 7- front left low - subwoofer 8- front right low - subwoofer All using speaker level connections through Technics harness except 7 and 8 which are using RCA outs Harness front input RCAs are connected to input 1 and 2 |

Ok, I took out the MS-8 and hooked my factory amp back up and still now sound through the speakers. no chimes no radio no nothing.
What could possibly cause this? I just unplugged the factory harness from the OEM amp and plugged it into Technics harness. Now I put it back and still no sound. To answer your question...I was getting 0 sound from the speakers. Sub was working. I used a battery to ensure that the sound was going through the harness to one of the speakers so I know sound will travel through the factory speaker wires. this just doesn't make sense |

Blown fuse is what was wrong with factory amp. Fuse 15 powers the OEM amp in my 2009 E92 in case anyone searches for this again.
So Fuse was not the problem with the MS-8 because it was powered up and working using a separate power cable. |

You unplug the factory harness plug from the OEM amp and plug it into the Technic harness, then you plug the RCA's from the Technic harness into the inputs on the MS-8. You connect the speaker outputs from the MS-8 to the inputs on Technic harness, and I plugged RCA's to my sub amp into the 2 remaining channels on the MS-8 If there is another way of hooking this up with the Technic harness please enlighten me because I am lost. Given that this is not the purpose built MS-8 harness by technic, it does not utilize the factory power. I ran a power cable with fuse from the battery to power the MS-8 and connected the ground to the nearby ground point. |

On my technic harness, it has the loc tapped into the front speaker out puts of the factory amp. So if the amp isn't working, then your ms8 wouldn't. Also be careful cause you could be shorting it out with the way you are wiring it

What csu87 has said is correct, but the way you configure the inputs depends on which system you have. Is it HiFi or Top-HiFi (Logic 7)? If you have Logic 7 you will have a center speaker on the dash.

Either the harness is to replace the OEM HiFi amp or the harness is to add an aftermarket amp to the OEM amp woofer outputs via a LOC to power a trunk sub. |

I have the hi-fi system. I suspect Technic is correct because the test signal is generated from within the amp, so no mistake of hooking it up would prevent that from working, and as I said, I tested one of the speaker outputs through Technic's harness and it worked fine.
It appears that there is a problem with the speaker level output from the MS-8. I am going to get that confirmed at a local audio shop tomorrow. Thanks Technic! |
