Alarm/tracking solutions?

Just caught some mother f***** trying to steal my car
He had a long metal pole and was going to use it to open my garage and take my car.
Lucky I came outside as he was walking up to my garage.
I'm all paranoid now and scared to fall asleep as he might come back later on

Anyway anyone have anything fitted to their car as extra security or a tracking device?
Or any ideas on where to get something good that will work with our cars

Thanks in advance

What the shit dude!

No good - been hearing this a lot lately, pretty brazen car thefts going on.

Im sure there are quite a few aftermarket GPS trackers you can get. Usually installed they transmit location frequently when the car is on and less frequently (say every 30 mins) when the car is off (useful if they plan on just dragging your car onto a tray truck)

Wow.. unfortunate to hear that.

Definitely get a dash cam, there is a GPS tracking device you can buy from jaycar. Just make sure you hide it well, so in the event someone does get the car, they can't dispose of the unit easily.

For example:

http://www.jaycar.com.au/Automotive-...evice/p/LA9011

My work ute has one installed, so my regional/state managers can see exactly where the ute has been, the tracker fitted to the ute also shows how fast the car is going. We had to find out the hard way since my manager took it on the highway and clocked over 130km so it sent a message straight to headoffice.

Shit - that's bad man.

If he was willing to open your garage to steal your car, he must have been keeping an eye on it for a while.

Did you report it to the local police?

He better not come back tonight otherwise I will lose my shit

Spend so much money on the car and for someone to even try steal it is just wrong

Even called police and still haven't showed up and that was nearly 2 hours ago. Good for nothing pigs

Thanks Ausf22 will look into it tomorrow

He would have been keeping an eye on it. He walked straight to my garage when my dads Audi is parked right at the front so was determined to get mine

That's crazy man, some people don't like it when others have nice things. Not to be offensive but the suburb you are in is not the best, but every area has its shit side i guess.

Lucky you had it in the garage, that's very ballsy to try and open the garage or just plain stupid.

Get a dash cam with inbuilt GPS tracking, or like stated before get a gps device which you can hide in the car.

And yea good luck with cops showing up, i called them once they never came to the house I had to go to the station to make the report.

Not surprised cops haven't rocked up yet - they will explain there were other more urgent matters to attend. Had same many years ago when my house got broken into. The first question they asked me in the phone was if I had insurance

Dam bro - the scary thing is the fact he knows your address, where car is parked etc..

Let's just hope he doesn't come back. Good chance he may not now, given he knows ur on the lookout

Was he on foot - I would have chased him with a baseball bat before calling backup

Tell me about it YA-91 makes me want to move to different suburb.

Was thinking that aswell socket wanting to do a kill switch but not sure how to go about it if anyone has done it before chime in please

Funny thing is when I went up to him he came and tried to shake my hand and said "nice car mate" I just looked at him like wtf and I noticed what he was holding so I didn't try anything as all I had in my hand was a smoke. Then he just looked at me with a smile on his filthy face and walked away...

He played it smooth. Was he complimenting the Audi or the BMW inside. In these situations the minds never straight anyway, one wrong move and it could have turned out worse. It's good he just slowly walked away

If he had a metal pole, chances are he was just going to smash your window and loot your car, pro car thieves wouldnt be seen walking around with a metal pole.

Chances are he would have just moved on to the next easy target, the best you can do is try and write down all of his notable features whilst fresh in your mind to pass details onto the police as there may be another car breakin in your area tonight and try and install a cheap camera in the garage area, and investigate the option of a tracking device for the car (they sms you if the car moves etc)

How was he planning to start your car with a pole and your dads car parked in front? Hope he wasn't trying to damage it.

My dads car is parked to one side so my car is a clear way to drive straight out.

Thinking the pole was just to break into the garage then maybe into the car after that then how he would start it I have no clue but I know these are not un-stealable

Jebeesus what suburb do you live in?

Back in the day I had a quick track system, it actually was installed by the previous owner of my car so it was easy to keep it going:

http://www.quiktrak.com.au/

It is still in the car but I stopped paying years ago. Used to be about $350 per year.

They could track the car and immobilize remotely when in contact with police.

The unit was very well hidden, at least not visible, but no doubt it could be ripped out fairly quickly if the thief new about it.

Yeh surveillance is always good. Also (this might be going overboard), but I have a partial alarm system installed in my house - meaning at night you can activate certain sections of the house e.g garage, lounge etc

It's pretty easy for me as it is a 2 story home, and I just activate the entire bottom floor (inc garage)

Just a thought
