Bluetooth question

I've had my 330i since sept 07, but just today thought about the bluetooth. I asked if it had bluetooth/cell phone capability when I bought it and the dealer told me no. But I have the original window sticker right here and as part of the Premium Package, it shows "BMW Assist and Bluetooth system" does that mean my car can communicate with my cell phone or something else. I turned on the bluetooth on my cell phone (Motorola RAZR) and the car said it was searching for bluetooth devices then said no devices found. Can anybody help me here?

Make sure the phone is in discoverable mode and try again.
Also check if the RAZR is listed as a compatible phone.
My Nokia 6230 isn't listed but works fine, I had to initiate the pairing from the car and then do the same (at the same time) from the phone to get mine working.

Is your phone model number just "6230" or "6230i"? I have the 6230i and have recently started having problems that the dealership (and BMW AG) is saying is because it isn't on the list. Originally I, too, had to initiate pairing from the car but with the latest software it appears to be initiated from the phone. Do you know what Progman version your car has and what phone version you have? For Nokia, enter *#0000# and the phone will tell you its version.

I'm not sure what version I have. I had the bluetooth option on but never tried the "find me" option when attempting to connect. I'll try this evening when my wife gets home since she took my bimmer to work today . Thanks guys!

When pairing an HFP connection, the AG (phone) discovers the AG (car); never the other way around. The discoverability setting of your phone has no effect on pairing with the car.

There's a zillion RAZR variants -- the V3m, for example, is very different than the V3. I'm pretty sure all of them are compatible, though.

This is actually making the car discoverable. You need to do this before selecting "Add Audio Device" (or similar... the exact phrasing has evolved over time) from settings -> connection -> Bluetooth on your RAZR.

Follow the pairing instructions in your manual. If you can't access the menus they tell you to access, then you don't have Bluetooth. Nothing's magically hidden.

Does your car in fact has the Assist system or not? Let's start from there, please...

+1 Do you have an SOS button? If so, you have BT and your RAZR should work....

I have the 6230 (v05.34). Not sure about the progman version, there is no way to tell. All I know is that my car is a 10/2007 production.
My phone works just fine, I have full access to the address book, incoming and outgoing calls, etc... the only thing that doesn't show up is the signal strength (the 4 little bars around the antenna icon)

I hope if you ever have the car's software upgraded it doesn't impact your compatibility. That seems to be what has happened, or what BMW is saying, to mine. It was working fine until the latest BMW software upgrade.

Ok my car does have bluetooth but when searching from my phone, the phone says no compatible devices found and when searching from the car, the car just says "searching........" for ever and never locates the phone. I think they just aren't compatible. I'll try with my wife's phone since it's brand new.

To answer the above questions:
1.) Yes, my car does have BMW assist and bluetooth
2.) Yes, I have an SOS button

If your phone is listed here (it should)... http://www.wireless4bmw.com/phones2.html

... then you should pair it like this: http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...HowtoPair.aspx

Does anyone know if the Bluetooth portion of the software on the car is region specific. That is to say, is the software in Europe different than the software on a US spec car? Seems to me it would, or at least should be the same worldwide.

Bluetooth portion, no. Language portion, yes (of course).

I have used Euro OEM Bluetooth modules in both my old E46 M3 and now in my current VW GTI and both have work with USA phones.
