Origins of the Twin-Kidney Grille

So BMW is famous for utilizing a twin-kidney grille (auf deutsch, Nieren). So when was it first used? Some believe that it was with the BMW 303 first seen in 1933. But in reality it was the Gebruder Ihle from Bruchsal, a coach-builder, that placed a twin kidney grille on a BMW 3/15 (nee Dixi) in 1932. Seems that BMW liked it.

So now you know something that even the local BMW CCA president probably doesn't. Impress everyone, and watch their eyes roll, when you deliver this nugget of absolutely worthless information at your next party. ; -)
