How to detect a jb or procede?
Hi, this might be a noob question but help is appreciated. I just traded my car in and just got a e92 335xi from a non bmw dealer I have a Cobb AP and checked the codes on the car before installing. It is showing 9 codes including H2FA3 (coding missing) (twice) oddly so I did not install cobb. This makes me think previous owner either had a jb or procede on it or some tune before they ended their lease. Car seems to run fine and feels stock like speed. I am concerned there might be a slim chance that the car has a jb or procede that was left installed and I don't want to take it to the dealer if it is. How can I tell without looking under the hood ??

Thanks, I guess I will just have to check the ecu. I want to take it to the dealer to make sure the warranty is still intact and not voided by prev. owner but I guess its best to make sure there is not currently a jb or procede installed first. Would be hard to imagine why someone would not uninstall to resell it before giving back a lease. If it did get uninstalled would it have cleared the code? Assuming I should clear the codes before dealer if I do not see any jb or procede present?

btw codes that cobb detected are H2FDA , H29CF , H29D2, H29D9 , H29CC , H2FA3 , H2F9E , H2A7C , H3100 if any other than the 2fa3 would indicate a tune being present. Guessing they are all old and just never been cleared

recomendations to inspect ECU box is really the only 100% method, however if you have a proceed or JB installed and if they are operational, there are dash control/display features with each that could be tried for confirmation of presence.
I'm not sure about the JB commands, but with a V5 pushing the cruise stalk up and holding for a few seconds with show current map setting via the Tachometer gauge... |

Thanks, I will try that. I was also thinking if I cleared all codes, the H2FA3 (coding missing) should come back right away if there is a piggy installed ??
Also, on the very slim chance the car has a dinan / giac flash (though it doesnt feel that quick) would it be safe to install the Cobb AP ?? |

Yea, it seems like a piggy would not throw the missing coding code. How would I know if the car currently has a flashed tune as it feels stock (a little quicker than my 535xi stock) and no apparent mods. I traded from a Land Rover dealer but carfax said the cars 1st owner was a lease, maybe the orig. owner had a Dinan flash (and may or may not flashed back to stock) ?
Would it be bad to clear codes and flash the cobb if car already is flashed ?? |

Did you figure it out?
I'm also getting H2F9E. In addition I have p2aaf - lots of people with Cobb AP (like me) have this. And I have H2f8f, which I can find 0 info on. |

Have you looked for other aftermarket parts like FMIC, or DPs? Although getting to the ECU may sound like a pain in the @$$, but it's actually a simple task. You can find a few YouTube video's on piggy installs. Good luck and have fun with your new ride... |
