Tachometer surging at start up
I know this can be related to the
old fuel pump issue on the N54's. My current 2011 335i Coupe with 21,000 mi is having fairly regular surging, searching at start up, cold or hot. Got it back from full check at Classic and NTF. They feel some "searching" is normal. Its almost embarasing at times. Comments or education about this would be helpful. I've never seen a car do this. Thx ahead.

Only the BMW tune. Sorry,
thought a lot here were familiar with the surging on the N54's and the fuel pump issues. Maybe its the pump or ICV. I heard another one in the parking lot do it last week, but wasn't sure of the engine make. Thx.

My car used to do that as well. I took it to the dealer and they said everything is running fine. I used chevrons injector cleaner and started filling up chevron gas only and KNOCK ON WOOD, it hasn't came back....

There is an SIB for this exact concern on other non-E9x N55 powered vehicles.... not sure if it will help: SI B12 04 12 Ask your service advisor to look into it. |

I have the same issue, but it happens to me mostly when the car is actually in motion. Times like I am searching for parking spot in the lot, where my foot is either on gas nor on brake. Sometime the car would stall. No code, BMW says they cannot do shit when there is no code.

I have this too, but usually after car has been running for a while and then at idle. Sometimes it almost cuts off. My car is 2011 E90 performance edition. I wonder if the ppk has something to do with it.

I've gotten this surge before. Almost always happens when starting the car and the AC is on. The first video you posted it seemed like that car also had their AC on (full blast) and that's when it started to surge. My guess is there's something in the ECU compensating for the compressor kicking on/off and it doesn't quite know how to modulate properly. If I rev the engine slightly for a few seconds, it seems to go away.
Could also be the fuel, but I pretty much use Shell religiously and am at about 17k miles. Never used the techron formula, but probably should throw a can full in to see if does anything. Can't remember if this happened before they installed the PPK, as well, or just after.

I've also had this surge once in a while but the highest it has ever reached was 1200 RPM (before engaging the turbos)
I would think it might be a way for the car to warm up but don't take my word for it. My vehicle also seems to have a dip in boost after 3000 RPM and I can actually feel the wheels losing the power. Not sure if it's an xDrive thing. My car has around 21000 KM.

My 2011 335 did the exact same thing...the dealer was pretty concerned about it because they thought it could be similar to the N54 issues so they kept it a few days. They performed a software update and it hasn't done it since although they couldn't pinpoint the problem. I don't have the PPK but do have JB4 installed although my car had the same problem when uninstalled also.
