My E91 Touring Blackline's installed
I picked up my Blacklines today. The install was easy, took about 20 minutes.
I love the way they look, the amber lamp at night looks so much better that the red. IMO I'll try and get some night pics tomorrow Sorry about the random pics. The DIY has been done well already so I'll just share some pics. 8mm socket wrench My amber lamp is soldered also More pics to come, I'm having problems uploading.

I remembered to get a pic of that. It is soldered.
How about the blackline/stock combo on the left side?

The good news today was the backlines. The bad news was that the roof rails are secured from the INSIDE, and in order to take them off the dealer want 4 to 5 hours labor to remove the inside headliner to remove them. At $139/hr its quite expensive. I spoke with a friend who runs a body shop, and he said that if I want it done to have the dealer do it, that way if they mess up the liner they will replace it.
I love the swoop of my roofline, but the rails bug me. To think I'll have to spend $550 to remove an option that others pay to have is ridiculous.

Oh you bastard! Tints too? Delaware has crappy laws about tints... I keep considering it but have never gotten it done.
Looking forward to those pictures!

Wouldn't it be nice if we could order our cars in NA the way folks can in Euro? Like with or without roof rails. With or without sunblock glass. M-Pack. etc. If we are such a big market, why the difficulty? Because we are so far from the factory? Because dealers do not want us to be able to order options that they don't want to have to mess with on their 'normal' allotment cars?
Great job posting this useful info on the blackline installation (and rail removal). |

stressdoc - couldn't agree more. And I think you hit the nail on the head. Too many configuration options would make the poor dealers work too hard and might leave them with hard to sell inventory. America may be a huge market but we are also too predicable and most people like to just pick a pretty one off the lot and drive it home.

Surprising, really, that the NA and Euro car-buying cultures could be so different. Perhaps we are stuck with some Vogonian relict of the emissions schism from the 70's. Or maybe it even goes back to Hoffman.
