Do You Have the Step or Manual Transmission?

I ordered Manual, but with all the traffic up here in Seattle I'm thinking about paying the extra $ for the Step.

This would be my first auto transmission, so I'm a little worried about not having as 'engaging' of a driving experience.

Which tranny did you choose?

Its my first step and I love it. I feel just (almost) as engaged, I dont think I will ever go back to manual.

If I remember correctly, for the factory here, 85-90% of its US orders ( 328i now) are for Auto

Only 55-60% of local orders are for Auto ( 320i,323i,325i,330i)

I would have ordered a manual, but since I'm a wheelchair driver unfortunately an automatic is my only choice. Fortunately I've heard that the tranny in the new 3 series is great so that's some comfort.

Also in Belgium, automatic transmission becomes more and more common.
But we got H-u-u-u-u-g-e taxes on big engines ( 1000 euro per year for 3 litre ) and KiloWatts (5000 euro once ), therefore I 'll get the 325.
BUT!
No paddles available on the 2500!

Does anybody know if you can buy the paddles apart and mount them in a 325?

Have the Auto w/o paddles to make it easier for Mrs. Crutch 325i to drive. I didn't really spend enough time with teaching her stick in my TDI Jetta, so she wasn't comfortable with a stick for her daily driver.

Step w/paddles. As the poll indicates though, the responses won't show many w/paddles since they just came out recently.

Paddles make it feel more engaging, it's a nice extra (for only $100 why skip it?), very responsive tranny on the '07s now. Got step for my commutes, past car was manual but got tired of it for now.

Exactly! We all have to remember we're in America. Here, most go with the lazy automatic. In Europe and other areas, the percentage is very much in favor of the "fun factor" manual. Now, is there anything wrong with the auto? Not at all, it's an excellent auto! I went with a Coupe this time and a Coupe with an auto just seems like you missed the boat. Our last two fun cars had autos ('06 330i & currently own an IS350). Fun cars for having an auto, but my 335i with the manual is in an entirely different driver's level of fun! Keep in mind this is a "3rd car" for us... Just my opinion... GO WITH THE MANUAL!!

should we tally each poll to see how accurate they are (they should have similar results) Maybe ppl think the previous auto/manual polls are not accurate. The next person who creates a man/auto poll will be

I have the steptronic in both cars. The E91 is primarily my wife's car, and my driving is in too much traffic. I've done the contant clutch dance in the past - no more.

I had DSG (similar to SMG) on my last car and it was crap. Steptronic all the way! The manual 'box can't take the torque anyway
