Fuel Economy Spreadsheets - POST EM'

So I was searching through some of the MPG threads and found out I wasnt the only OCD E90 owner.

Here is mine: www.poldim.com/auto/fuel.htm

It will eventually be implemented into the webpage that I will make....eventually.

Will do when I get home.

Its not 1000% accurate for each trip, but overall should be pretty accurate since its based on all fuel bought and all miles traveled.

In general, I just fill at the pump until it clicks off to approximately fill to the same point every time.

What makes this strategy less than 100% accurate? Don't worry about sending it. I just copy/pasted from your website into excel and recreated the formulas real quick.

have you considered adding a column stating what type of driving (city vs highyway) was done?

For each trip, there is no way to track exatcly how much gas you used. Its probably plus or minus about a gallon and a half. If you fill at the same gas station, same pump, and the gas vapors/liquid that turns off the pump in the same spot every time you fill, then it'd be accurate, but that doesnt happen. If you are on an incline, a lot more/less gas might go in even though the pump shuts off. Various pumps have slightly different sensitivities and so on.

You can track milage, but amount of fuel burned is a little bit more of an estimate.

I thought about it but then realized it a waste of space. You should be able to figure this out from the MPG.

Considering you can go about 400 miles on a tank of gas, I think you will encounter all types of driving.

Mine is 350 mile trips between houses, but then I gun it up and down the mountains and shot the 33 mpg down to 30

Thought I had to post mine up here too...

It's not 1000% accurate, but it's pretty good. I've filled up at the same station the last few times, and only used two different pumps!

As to my type of driving -> Mostly city driving, with my VERY heavy foot...

Assuming this is for your e90, you must drive like a grandma. Those mpg figures are off the charts.

Edit: I guess the avg speed explains it pretty well. Looks like >90% highway driving.

Yep. My daily commute is almost all highway, with the occasional bogging in heavy traffic. We haven't racked up enough miles on the E91 yet to have meaningful numbers, plus it's not past break-in yet. So those numbers are all for the E90.

Wow, I knew you guys were anal about your cars, but isn't this going a little overboard.

You should consider keeping more spreadsheets on things like: how much food you eat each day; on how much soap you use in the shower; on how many keystrokes you expend while on this forum; and on how many farts you make per mile.

LOL

Oh, I didn't know you wanted to see those too... I have them! I even have a spreadsheet that tracks how much time I spend making spreadsheets!

eheh :-) I have a spreadsheet on how much cleaning my car, and cleaning my lemon leather costs

I can't help it...

Ps. No one outside these forums knows of my obsession. They all know I love cars, but no one knows how deeply addicted I am

LEDZEP,

WOW!!! That spreadsheet is MASSIVE. I'm speechless. I don't do anything like that at all. I just check the average L/100km use from time to time and fill up when I need to. I run a business and I write off all car expenses. I just have to keep receipts.

That's mighty impressive. Keep up the great work.

Hey Broken 1,

Neat little spreadsheet. Pales compared to Ledzep but if it keeps you informed, then it does its job and that's all that matters.

And do you scent your lemon coloured seats with lemon fragrance?

Cheers

A bit of a compulsion I admit. But since I've been doing it for so long it's not really any work at all. I just jot down the stats on my gas receipt (miles driven, avg speed, OBC mileage) and enter that and the fill up info. Thanks for the compliment.

wow,

I'm very impressed by the amount of tracking you guys do on this

is it just for fun or do some of you log miles for tax reasons?
