HPI Data
I recently handed back my e92 and now I've had a letter from those HPI people asking me if I would confim mileage, dates I had the car and so-on. My first inclination was to bin it - whenever I've used those HPI people in the past I've always been pissed off at how much a simple check costs and I was inclined to think why should I do their work for them?
Then I thought: If all this stuff is correct and up-to-date then less people will get ripped off. But why do they charge so much for an enquiry? Anyway, would you submit the details?

Yes.
I also think mileage should be declared every time the car is taxed, serviced, changes hands etc.

I usually do reply to them if I can remember the details but sometimes its years later. Generally my belief is that the more info they can gather the less fraud there can be.
Recording mileage when taxing is a good idea but very impractical unless an inspector has to see the car each time as it would be easy to do 20k per year and declare 5k on your tax application and then clock later. |

Xenon, as you say, it will help future potential purchasers, and totally agree that it's a joke how much they charge.
I purchased my BMW from "Lexus" and they paid for the hpi checks as part of the deal. I guess if you buy from a reputable dealer they would normally do this for you anyway. |
