Its a coupe! For a convertible I can understand this argument, but a coupe?!?!?

Anyway, the quickest way to get the car will be if BMWNA sends dealerships "stock" models to sell on the showroom floor. Otherwise your still looking at order lead time, top that off with it being a new body style, and your adding even more time. I would suggest that in the near future you consider putting down a refundable deposit to secure a production slot. You have nothing to lose (besides a little interest), and this way can custom tailor the car to your liking.

I was basically told for "regular" BMWs the process happens like this (someone correct me if I am wrong):
Month 0: Car is shown on floor (and available for purchase) in Europe
Month 2 to 3: BMWNA pricing is released, and it can be ordered for ED
Month 3: Production Slots are released, those high on wait list can order
Month 3 to 4: "Stock" cars may arrive in the dealerships
Month 4 to 5: Standard Ordered & ED Ordered cars arrive in states
Month 6 or later (depends on demand): Orders not on wait list start to arrive

Ofcourse, this differs for cars built in the states, and for the ultra-limited M-series. Also, I am not 100% sure about ED, but that is what I seem to recall, ED normally adds time for shipping.

This is correct.
What could happen is the same thing that occurred with the E46 Coupe. BMW sent North America an early batch of cars that weren't ordered....about 5 or 6 per dealership. They arrived in July of 1999 before the factories shut down for vacation in August. Anyone who plays their cards right could have a shot at one of those cars.
