SparkPlugs Maintenance

My car indicated that the sparkplugs should have been changed at 80,000km. However, different from an oil change in which the km ticker drops until the service warning comes on, the spark plug service warning stays at 80,000 km.

I now hav 86,000km and the sparkplug indicator still shows 80,000 and I'm planning to change it only at 100,000 as I read a couple of threads suggesting that.

Anyone else have a similar situation and is it normal?

Why wait to 100,000? Change it now and reset the computer. The reset is simple. There is a video on here showing step by step on how to reset it. Search "All 3 series reset".

If no codes are being thrown use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner (concentrate). It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes. If you want to register a newly installed battery for free (just buy a $10 cable) and google/download BMWLogger

I'm surprised you got a spark plug message at 80,000 km since you don't have a turbo.

Like my '99 328i, the current US 328i calls for replacement at 100,000 mile (160,000 km) intervals. When traded at 97,000 miles, the '99 was still running very strongly on the original plugs.

Unless things are different in the Great White North, it's the 335i which specifies a 45,000 mile (75,000 km) replacement.

My only advice would be to get OEM plugs and to check the gap of your original plugs, gap the new ones exactly the same as the old ones (probably .043)
