Smile Requesting YOUR datalog, testing excel-based dyno

All,

I'm nearly ready to beta test an excel-based dyno spreadsheet that uploads a datalog (.csv, .txt) from your computer and produces accurate HP/TQ results. There are similar programs out there (airboy, etc) however I ensure you that my spreadsheet will be the most accurate, useful tool of its kind available (free too ).

I'm alpha testing the spreadsheet using datalogs from my team's personal vehicles (evo X, '11 wrx, and '08 135i), and now I'd like to expand the testing to YOUR datalogs. The only data I absolutely NEED to do the calcs are time and RPM, and the info below. If your datalog has more info like timing, boost, etc, that's even better!

Looking for ~2,000 steady, then WOT to redline in 3rd or 4th. If you don't pull to redline your numbers will be low!

Please feel free to attach here, or email to srplaske[at]gmail[dot]com, your datalogs for a 3rd or 4th gear pull. With the attachment or email please provide as much of the following as you can:

• Car [year,make,model,trans]
• Gear or diff mods (if not stock)
• Drive tire make/model/size (I use this to find rev/mile from manufacturer spec sheets).
• Cargo weight [driver, passenger(s), cargo]
• Fuel amount in tank (1/4, 1/2, full, almost empty, etc)
• Weather data if availible (altitude, temp, humidity %)
• CF preference (None, STD, SAE... Note: I can only do SAE/STD with accurate weather data)

In return I will post up the dyno sheet printout of your pull and send you a beta release of the spreadsheet when it's ready so you can play around with it.

Thanks fellas,

Steve

I can do one better, I have datalogs of 4th gear pulls while on the dyno.

Same. Op, I'll send what I have over from my last time on the dyno.

A datalog that has a dyno chart associated with it would be the best actually especially for beta testing...cool, will be interesting to see..

Just sent my 9 data logs and 9 dyno charts from last month.

Thanks. Can't wait to run these!

Now for the record, my spreadhseet does it's magic by combining raw G force (moving a mass through space and time), wind resistance (for given mph), and roll resistance (assumed scalar).

A dyno pull will be nothing more than rpm vs time and I'll have fun backwards-engineering the dyno's CF and drum characteristics. In other words, it'l be very useful but is NOT what the sheet does (lol). In any case I'll report back with the findings.

The Evo market has a tool like this for a while, people sale it's pretty accurate.. I have seen some heated arguments over virtual dyno runs though lol.

We had one on my last platform as well, it could only give you torque of course.

The number itself was fairly close but the important part was if you changed your modifications or tune you could then ideally run the same stretch of road, ambients, wind ETC and see if the change has helped.

We used this primarily for maximizing street tunes although it has its obvious limits when it comes to uncontrollable exterior changes.

You shall see, my spreasheet is extremely accurate so long as you're using the same stretch of flat pavement and it's not terribly windy. Corrections (if you choose to apply them with decent weather data) are SAE accurate (J1349) and you can always run the data with CF set to none.

Wind is the only real variable that cannot be controlled and thus, DOES impact results if you compare a strong headwind run to a strong tailwind run. It comes down to how much HP was used to combat drag.

Bottom line, the datalog does not lie about what actually happened when you nailed the throttle - this spreadhseet converts raw numerical data to comparable graphic data. Oh, it archives data records and overlays any 3 runs from your database with drop downs.

Enough hype, I'll post back when I run some of these logs.

It'd be nice if you could use multiple worksheets inside the workbook for multiple runs and then be able to plot them against each other for a visual comparo

Hey what about this?

Wayy ahead of you!

As dyno runs are exported (as new sheets via export button) they are added to the reference archive. Dropdowns overlay the data on the dyno chart automatically.

Any datalog, just add your car to the customer database and it will work. I preloaded a GR sti, 135i, 335i, 11+ WRX, evo X.

Right now it natively supports Cobb format logs, but will accept and work with anything that resembles a datalog so long as it is a 1 row header with "Time" and "RPM" somewhere up there (looking to expand to support procede logs very soon).

Thanks, but oh man this is blowing my mind. I have excel 2003, should it matter? And a debugger keeps popping up... can't get past the error type windows. Got worse when I tried to reduce macro security. maybe beyond my putering skills. any advise?

You have to unzip the file into a fresh folder, and fully enable macros - it should work. Might be a 2007+ version so I may need to send you an "older excel" version. PM me the exact error and I'll work on a fix!
