I had my first Magners at a friends party this evening - I didnt like it at all . Sort of apple flavoured lager - nothing like a real cider - which is fine if you like it but I wont be touching a bottle again. What I did enjoy though was a Nigerian brewed-under-licence Guinness - much stronger in taste and alcohol (7.5%) than ordinary Guinness but very interesting to say the least.

All these 'new' ciders are just alcopops aimed at 25 yr plus men. When you're bored of Mule, vomiting or WKD then they want you to 'mature up' to cider.

Although they do go down very well after the first two have killed the taste buds...... and you're hooked, cos anything else tastes like crap that night!

Have you tried those Swedish ciders - jesus - they're like liquid pear drops, so sweet.

Went to a country fair in oxford and this old lad was selling some home made stuff.

It was warm and had bits in it... but by god was it good stuff.

It was also 14%.

You haven't lived unless you've had Sheppys Farmhouse cider, made here in cider-country in Taunton Somerset. When I was a nipper I used to go down there with the old man and refill his gallon jug directly from the vat!

I like's me a cider, quite often. Have to admit i'm a girl though and i like the kopparberg stuff. The strawberry one is fucking nectar i swear. Out on the patio, in the sunshine, with a glass of that avec ice, heaven.

Re Carl and his stella statement. I couldn't agree more!! Bottle, can, or shite pub, and stella is pants. Get it right, in the right place, ice cold, draught, and it's utterly delicious. I've never found anyone that agree's with me before, and i've been saying it for years.

Have to admit to chavness now, but i'm fond of brahma, and tuborg at the moment, cheap as chips in asda.

I'm another who's tried Magners and thought it was horrible. This is possibly due to trying to drown myself with cider when I was about 15. The thought of cider is enough to give me the dry boke.

Tried all those fancy Koppaberg things and the crabbies ginger beer but couldn't stomach more than one bottle of any of them. Just too sweet for me. I like my booze to taste strongly of booze, not sugary sweets.

The scariest thing about the resurrection of this thread is the fact that SteveA's 19 month old son mentioned in the first post will now be in school.

Got to agree with that - also Rich's and Mudgely have got to be mentioned as proper cider.

Can't be beaten - cloudy, still and with bits in! Lovely

Funnily enough, lots of drinks taste bad from cans and better in glass bottles.

Budweiser tastes better in cans though.
