Im currently looking into buying one getting ready for stage 2, however its either AMS or ETS 5". I know AMS is a 100$ more but what do you guys think would be best for the COBB stage 2?

THanks,
I have the AMS FMIC, have had it for well over a year (maybe 1.5?) but I live it. I have COBB as well and I am waiting for stage 2. You can't beat the end tanks, and I can tell a HUGE difference at high RPM's with being able to sustain power as compared to the stock FMIC (testing done on a SSTT a while back). I feel like AMS probably has the best combination of flow, light weight, low pressure drop, great cooling, and efficient use of the "hole" in the front bumper.

The AMS and HPF end tanks are almost identical. As a matter of fact the two intercoolers are almost identical as well. Both are great choices!

I would go with HPF if I felt I needed a "bigger" FMIC but I was hoping it weighed less (big HPF fan in general). Even if you wanted to dump enough methanol into your manifold to run consistent 50 degree F intake temps, I still would have to change out the stock FMIC connection... that baffled connection on the charge side which is at a right angle and drops to like 2 inches in diameter is such a crappy flow design.

Thread Jacked!

I also use the ETS FMIC and think it's great.

As for Stage 2... since when does summer end in September?

Newb question

Newb question. In preparation for stage 2 I have ordered my DP. The thread says that stage 2 will not throw CEL for DP. What about when the AP is unmarried for BMW service? Will the car then throw CEL for DP? If so is there some permanent DP fix?

I recommend removing the DP for service

DP

Removing the DP every time I bring the car to BMW sounds a bit extreme. I've had the car 3.5 months and been in twice with another visit scheduled in two weeks. Wouldn't it just void emissions type warranties? I guess I might just say screw it and put them on anyways.

Guys, use a BMS downpipe fix and leave it in there for service.

Bms dp fix

I thought bms DP fix only worked with JBx? If it is stand alone I will be ordering one today. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Yes, it is standalone. You can tell this just by looking at the picture on their website.

I wouldn't waste your money. Stage 2 turns of the cat codes so justeait for that to get out of alpha testing.

I went to the track. Ran 13.303 @ 108.39 and 13.528 @ 104.78 (forgot to shift). Rev to 3,000 for launch. Was 90 degrees out. Beat a 2011 Corvette Grand Sport off line for first 400 ft then he passed me for a 12.9 @ 110. Not bad for a tune only on runflats. The cars normally running 10's or better were having problems with heat and track. AWD might have helped me a bit.

Would other tunes give me similar results? Is this about average?

What was your 60'? I ran 13.3 @ 105 w/2.0 60' with JB+ @ 75%. I have Cobb now, but if I'm only going to see a 3 MPH gain when I get back to the track, I will be selling this thing & buying another JB+ fast.

So the Cobb will achieve constant o2 ready status? You do understand some of us have yearly inspections.

Actually I haven't. My wedding is in two months and we recently moved if anything I need to find time to change the oil let alone go to the track.

I was simply saying that if I only gain 3 MPH from it, I'm selling it. 3 MPH is not worth $700 more IMO.

If it helps you, the AP said I went 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds.

If you trapped 113 you have more than just a tune. The only other mod I have is BMS DCI. I won't be trapping 113.
