Appologies for my naievty, (this sort of thing has always put me off buying any 911, although i'd dearly love one) but would a warranty not cover all the faults mentioned?
And if so how much is said warranty?

Yes it would. However, Pork warranty is about 1200 pa and car must be checked at OPC beforehand and all faults fixed and all non OEM parts removed, Also requires full OPC history. Can only be taken out on cars less than 9 years old - most 996s well beyond this now.

+1

The OPC warranties are also limited to around 120,000 miles - even the battery has to be OPC branded to remain covered - silly. It used to be a bargain 7/800/year - even for a turbo - and more flexible.

Hartech part 4 and especially the new part 5 of his buying guide are essential reading for all 996/997 owners.

Gen 2 looks like the engine might be ok - but they are still 40+k

All 996 Turbos and GT3 have old style 964 derived engine blocks so don't have the same issues.

The other way to look at a 996 C4S is that it's only worth just over 2 years depreciation on a brand new loaded 335 - then you could throw it away......bonus if it's still running. Yeah ok not quite, but interesting.
It is a tiny percentage though. Mines got a warranty, and I love it. Life's too short to worry.
