E90 Stereo Question **HELP PLEASE**

First post here...

My car is a 2008 323i with the stock stereo (there is no tweeters by the mirrors, no subs, and no amp in the trunk)... The sound system in this car is really inferior to other vehicles I've owned in the past, for electronic music to have any impact, I usually have to set the bass to +6 and the Hi to +7 (no mids....crazy right?)

I'm seriously considering upgrading the system by adding an amp and some subs.... My questions are:

1. Is every E90 pre-wired for the subs under the seats and the amp in the trunk? If so, I can buy the original subs and an amp from a friend for fairly cheap.

2. I know that by adding the subs and an amp to drive them, I would be feeling more low end, am I going to feel more clarity and punch overall by this addition if I turn the bass on the head unit down thereby just using the pre-existing speakers for highs and mids???

3. Should I be considering other amps and subs other than the original OEM's? The fact that they fit under the seats was a big motivation for choosing the OEM's....

4. Is the stereo that I currently have considered the "Hi Fi" version (no tweeters by the mirrors, no subs, and no amp in the trunk)?

If you have any suggestions I would be most grateful.

Electronic subforum

Is where you will find the answer to your upgrade questions.
Many people are unhappy with this system and solutions
have already been worked out . You are describoing the base system not Hi Fi
Hi Fi has tweeters.
Hi Fi is not that great it falls apart when you turn it up

Stereo does not have the amp in the trunk and probably does not have wiring but you can
get an aftermarket harness from Technic these harnesses are included in the Musicar Kits

The existing speakers are cheap and won't handle much power the best solution is aftermarket speakers and amps

Yes. there is stuff that fits but its not the run of the mill pioneer or sony stuff
not many make 4 inch components door speakers that fit or the low profile 8 inch speakers
that go under the seats there are some good ones out there though

You are describing the base stereo
also that system requires a processor to flatten the head output

Thanks so much for sharing all this information. Should I buy the OEM subs for 59 dollars a piece?

No. I've got OEM subs that I could sell you, but if you want to actually spend your hard-earned $$$, then call MusicarNW and get a system that you will be happy with.

I installed their Level1 kit over the weekend, and the sound is soooo much better. When you find yourself smiling as you listen to the stereo, you know you've made a good decision.

Subs alone will just add more boom to a crappy sound....

Good luck!
