BMS Can Tool question

So I purchased the BMS can tool so I could read/delete codes and it works great. I was wondering however if there is a use for the output on the device that connects to the cord. Pic included

It's extremely easy to use, no coding experience necessary. All you do is plug this in to your OBD and it has one button that you use to read/delete codes. Also adds a shift light and gauge hijacking (fuel as boost, AIT as oil, etc.)

You download the program from the manufacturer and is pretty much p-n-p. It is a lot easier to view and delete codes on your laptop versus the blinking thing.

Can this be used like an Autozone code reader for more than just the BMW? I hate to go buy a generic reader for my other cars (different makes).

I think if it had usb connector that it would be plug and play but the connector looks like a serial port connector. There is no way I can attach the cord to my laptop without some sort of adapter. If I used a serial port to usb adapter does anyone know if this would work?

Thanks for the correction. I had edited the post as you were typing though. I have confirmed that the connector is not the 15 pin VGA, it is however the 9 pin serial port.

Where do you guys recommend buying a scanner to read codes? Which one?
This is for my 2011
If I can do it from my laptop that would be sweet. All I want to do is see and clear / reset them if necessary.
