I brought my car from BC, and treid to insure my BMW in SK.
The lady said I would need to pay 5% value of the car.

My car is financed through BMW Canada and I can't justify paying another 5% tax on it while I am already paying 12% HST monthly.
I think this is BS. Btw, my plan is to stay here for about 2 year max.
Any feedback or is there way to avoid 5% tax?

Also clarify about the 'lady' sounds like insurance but it could be registration. . I've never heard such thing about repaying taxes

paying tax on the insurance premium would make sense, but paying 5% of the book value of your car makes no sense

This only way this makes sense is if you're leasing and now the taxes are different in SK. Because you pay taxes on each payment and not up front on a lease.

5% on your monthly payment, what's the big deal?

As long as you have owned the car more than 90 days and it was registered in BC, you should not have to pay taxes in any other province.

If the car is less than 90 days old, wait until day 91 to register and insure it in SK

its 12% PST when you buy a vehicle within BC that if you are resident of BC. Effective as of 2013 March 31.
I just read that on ICBC page.

This is true. Bought a car in Ontario and paid HST, then insured it in Manitoba and had to pay the sales tax again on the car even though I showed them I just paid Ontario tax. Silly process, however you can apply to have the sales tax refunded once you pay.
